personal chattels (def.)

Your personal possessions. In England and Wales this has a specific legal meaning: tangible movable property, such as furniture, jewellery, clothing, books, artwork, cars and household items.

It does not include money, investments, shares, business assets, or property held mainly as an investment.

The term matters because a Will may leave "my personal chattels" to someone as a single gift, rather than listing each item.
