Gifts and Bequests

The following is a transcript of the voice guidance in the adeus Digital Will generator.

Now we get to the sections that many people find more complicated. Take your time as clearly expressing how you would like your assets and key possessions to be distributed is really important. It will provide you peace of mind, and reduce any potential confusion among your loved ones as they'll better understand your wishes.

The first step is to detail gifts and bequests. After payment of debts, funeral expenses and taxes, gifts and bequests will be distributed by your executor based on your wishes.

You can leave a specific gift such as a personal item, for example jewellery, art, or a family heirloom, to a person you know would benefit from that gift. You can also choose to leave a fixed sum of money to a person or an organization. This is often referred to as a ‘pecuniary legacy.’

Many people leave a lasting legacy by supporting causes they care about. You can leave a specific amount or a share of your residuary estate to a registered charity. This can also be tax-efficient, as charitable gifts in England & Wales are exempt from Inheritance Tax.
