letter of wishes (def.)
A private document that sits alongside your Will and explains your thinking. It might set out how you would like your Executors to exercise any discretion, your funeral preferences, or the reasons behind a particular decision.
A letter of wishes is not legally binding and does not form part of your Will. It can be updated at any time without the formalities of signing and witnessing. Because it is not binding, it should never contain anything you need to be legally enforceable, which belongs in the Will itself.
